Racism and Prejudice continues to be a hot topic today, despite efforts to denounce racism throughout the world, it still exists to varying degrees, most of which is very subtle these days. During March of 2005, a workshop was created to discuss racism and prejudice in N. Ireland, an area which has seen great turmoil in the way of paramilitary war and terror, but recently has become steeped in racism as immigration has accelerated with the end of the troubles in N. Ireland. As it was noted on the internet, “It’s perhaps the only city in the western hemisphere were the estate agents actually carry advertisements clearly stating “no blacks, Chinese, Pakistani etc etc”. Belfast has been labelled by the European Union as the most racist city in Europe and by the United Nations as the most racist city in the world. This programme was sponsored by a government funded function to discuss racism and prejudice, and in this case - hear what Islam says about the topic.

Allah, the Majestic mentions:

O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allâh is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. pious) . Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware. (Al-Hujurat 49:13)

also,

He it is Who shapes you in the wombs as He pleases. La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. (Aali Imran 3:6)

Allah, it is He Who has made for you the earth as a dwelling place and the sky as a canopy, and has given you shape and made your shapes good (looking) and has provided you with good things. That is Allâh, your Lord, then blessed be Allâh, the Lord of the ‘Alamîn (mankind, jinns and all that exists). (Ghafir 40:64)

He has created the heavens and the earth with truth, and He shaped you and made good your shapes, and to Him is the final Return. (At-Taghabun 64:3)

During the summer of ‘06, two mashaayikh from Dammaaj, Yemen visited Canada to conduct classes on ‘Aqeedah and Fiqh. al-hamdulilaah, we expected tremendous benefit from such a privilege, however we didn’t expect how dedicated and energetic our beloved guests would be. During a 3 1/2 week period in Canada and Trinidad, Shaykh Aboo ‘Amr and Shaykh Aboo ‘Abdullaah taught 5-7 classes a day, using in-between portions for sleep in some cases. They would educate us on the way to and from the masjid, giving us a hadeeth to memorise along every short journey, quizzing us often, on the classes and general issues of our deen (in order to educate us). They enquired much about the status of Islam and the Muslims in our lands (and the people of innovation and destruction) and offered advice after fruitful advice, they also travelled around the lands, calling the people to al-Qur’aan was-Sunnah (and the classes and seminars) and stayed up in to the night answering question after question, without tiring, complaining or showing any negative emotions. In fact, they scolded us once when we implored the attendees to let our guests leave and get some rest.

It was a very insightful time, the exuberance and diligence of these mashaayikh was a real synopsis of sorts, in to the live of a ‘taalibul-ilm’. During their 3 1/2 week stay, they conducted over 74 lectures and classes, the last of which have just been edited and finalised - ‘Readings from Kitaabul-Ilm and Kitaabul-Adab’, 7 months later. We ask Allaah to reward them generously, ameen.

‘LORD NAZIR’, A KEY SPEAKER FOR
MARKAZI JAMIAT AHLE-HADITH UK

“NIQAAB IS PURELY CULTURAL”!!

‘Lord’ Nazir Ahmed has always been seen by the Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith as one of their own, who has ‘made it’ into the political arena. They always state and claim that he is a good ahle-hadith person who aids Islaam and the Muslims and is a protector of the rights of Muslims in the UK.

Green Lane Mosque, the headquarters of Jamiat Ahle-Hadith UK, have invited him year after year, conference after conference, even after event, as a speaker and lecturer.

So now Nazir Ahmed has taken yet another step in misrepresenting Islaam:

“The veil is now a mark of separation, segregation and defiance against mainstream British culture.”

“But there’s nothing in the Koran to say that the wearing of a niqab is desirable, let alone compulsory. It’s purely cultural. It’s an identity thing which has been misinterpreted..”

This is shear and utter ignorance. It reminds us of the following beautiful narration:

Narrated Alqamah that ‘Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood said:”Allaah curses those women who practice tatooing and those who get themselves tatooed, and those women who get their hair removed from their eyebrows…”

His saying reached a lady from the tribe of Asad, called Umm Ya’qoob came to the Companion, Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood and said:

“I have come to know that you have cursed so and so women?” He replied, “Why should I not curse those whom Allaah’s Messenger has cursed and who are cursed in Allaah’ Book!”

Umm Ya’qoob said: “I have read the whole Qur’aan, but I did not find in it what you say.” He said: “If you have indeed read it, you would have found it. Did you not read:

{{And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it. And whatever he forbids he forbids you, abstain from it.}} [Qur’aan 59:7]”

[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree 6/4886]

The Scholars state that the niqaab is from Islaam, and the hadeeth are ample in that regard. The only matter of difference is whether it is obligatory or recommended without obligation.

So is it that Nazir Ahmed only accepts what he finds in the Qur’aan, and leaves off the Sunnah and the statements of the Prophet (salallaahu alaihi wassallam)? Or is that he is ignorant, feigning knowledge?
So when will the defenders of the Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith realise the harm that the Jamiat and its associates are doing to the da’wah?

And note, O reader, that our exposition of this Jamiat is in no way support for the evil attributes of the Soofees as is well known. Indeed our advice to and correction of the Jamiat, pre-dates the soofee and jamiat battle of media (i.e. the “Undercover Mosques” program) by over a decade! We were speaking against the innovated ideology of the Soofees when the Jamiat was inviting them to Green Lane mosque and giving them platforms to speak upon and praising the Soofees openly on public radio. So maybe that is another lesson to Jamiat, but a lesson alas unheeded!

The Legacy of Islamic Cassettes
Since the mid-nineties, when our da’wah centre started to collect/trade cassettes from around the world, tapes were an integral part of spreading ad-da’watus-salafiyyah in Canada and beyond. These cassettes were distributed freely to spread the da’wah (one of our first ever projects in 1997) and also sold to support our small da’wah centre ($600 rent) and uphold what little da’wah projects existed at that time. They were a focal point in spreading the da’wah growing to over 1000 in total, but they were also tedious, expensive (to produce and maintain) and poor quality audio. CDs and other digital formats have existed for quite some time which are of better quality and not prone to wear and tear and more easily distributable. This month we have finally retired cassettes in favour of MP3 downloadable audio @ www.troid.org/store, which you can purchase and download to your PC. During the coming months, we will be introducing more MP3s and we will no longer sell cassettes.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Yahya An Najmee on Voting and Elections 

Today (February 27, 2007) the Sheikh was asked the following question:

Questioner: Oh beloved Sheikh, what is the ruling on Muslims in America taking part in voting and elections, if they feel this will  somehow benefit Islam and the Muslims?

Sheikh:  The system of elections is an innovation and it is not permissible for the Muslims to participate in them alongside the disbelievers.

Questioner:  The reason for their participation, is that if they support and vote for an individual running for a particular position; even if this person is a disbeliever, this person will in turn give the Muslims land for building schools and masjids.

Sheikh:  Oh my brother, is it permissible for the Muslims to enter into innovations and join and work with the disbelievers to obtain something that may take place, or may not?! This is not correct in my opinion.
