Weather causing havoc on Britain’s roads

20 July 2007
Britain’s wet summer continued today as thunderstorms caused havoc on the nation’s roads.
The Met Office has issued several weather warnings for Wales and across much of southern England where more than four inches of rain could fall in an hour.
This is causing localised flooding and torrid driving conditions.
According to reports from the BBC, five people have been reported trapped by flash flooding in a building in Barry, South Wales, while in Hereford, the council is handing out Wellington boots to help stranded motorists.
At Auto Trader towers in Wimbledon, staff were forced to move cars from the underground car park as rain flowed in.
Here’s our top five tips to avoid being a victim of the weather:
1 Only drive if you have to
2 If you are approaching flooding, drive very slowly and carefully
3 Allow more time for your journey
4 Double the distance between yourself and the driver in front
5 Gently test your brakes regularly in the rain

AND don’t drive through water flooding pedestrians – it’s illegal and you could get points on your license.
