CDs: Tafseer Series (Summer ‘07) 7 CD Set explaining the first twelve ayah of Sooratul-Hujjuraat Contents:

MR5.1 Tafseer of Sooratul-Hujjaraat 1/7: Introductory Issues of Tafseer, Explanation of Ayah 1-3

O you who believe! Do not put (yourselves) forward before Allaah and His Messenger (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), and fear Allaah. Verily! Allaah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (Al-Hujuraat 49:1)

O you who believe! Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), nor speak aloud to him in talk as you speak aloud to one another, lest your deeds may be rendered fruitless while you perceive not. (Al-Hujuraat 49:2)

Verily! Those who lower their voices in the presence of Allaah’s Messenger (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), they are the ones whose hearts Allaah has tested for piety. For them is forgiveness and a great reward. (Al-Hujuraat 49:3)

MR5.2 Tafseer of Sooratul-Hujjaraat 2/7: Explanation of Ayah 4-5

Verily! Those who call you from behind the dwellings, most of them have no sense. (Al-Hujuraat 49:4)

And if they had patience till you could come out to them, it would have been better for them. And Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Al-Hujuraat 49:5)

MR5.3 Tafseer of Sooratul-Hujjaraat 3/7: Explanation of Ayah 6

O you who believe! If a rebellious evil person comes to you with a news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful to what you have done. (Al-Hujuraat 49:6)

MR5.4 Tafseer of Sooratul-Hujjaraat 4/7: Explanation of Ayah 7-10

And know that, among you there is the Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). If he were to obey you (i.e. follow your opinions and desires) in much of the matter, you would surely be in trouble, but Allaah has endeared the Faith to you and has beautified it in your hearts, and has made disbelief, wickedness and disobedience (to Allaah and His Messenger salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) hateful to you. These! They are the rightly guided ones. (Al-Hujuraat 49:7)

(This is) a Grace from Allaah and His Favour. And Allaah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. (Al-Hujuraat 49:8)

And if two parties or groups among the believers fall to fighting, then make peace between them both, but if one of them rebels against the other, then fight you (all) against the one that which rebels till it complies with the Command of Allaah; then if it complies, then make reconciliation between them justly, and be equitable. Verily! Allaah loves those who are equitable. (Al-Hujuraat 49:9)

The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islaamic religion). So make reconciliation between your brothers, and fear Allaah, that you may receive mercy. (Al-Hujuraat 49:10)

MR5.5 Tafseer of Sooratul-Hujjaraat 5/7: Explanation of Ayah 11

O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it may be that the latter are better than the former; nor let (some) women scoff at other women, it may be that the latter are better than the former, nor defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. How bad is it, to insult one’s brother after having Faith [i.e. to call your Muslim brother (a faithful believer) as: “O sinner”, or “O wicked”, etc.]. And whosoever does not repent, then such are indeed Dhalimoon (wrong-doers, etc.). (Al-Hujuraat 49:11)

MR5.6 Tafseer of Sooratul-Hujjaraat 6/7: Explanation of Ayah 12

O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allaah. Verily, Allaah is the One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful. (Al-Hujuraat 49:12)

On this day in 1979… False rumours lead to killings in Pakistan

Filed under: General at 5:07 am (no comments)

Allaah says,

“O you who believe! If a sinful evil person comes to you with a news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful to what you have done.”

1979: Mob destroys US embassy in Pakistan

A mob in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, has burned the US Embassy to the ground, killing a US marine.

The five-hour siege began as an organised student protest outside the locked gates of the embassy compound.

But the demonstration grew violent as protesters pulled down part of the outer wall and broke into the compound itself.

Gunfire broke out, and the marine, who was standing on the roof of the building, was shot.

Radio report

The attacks are believed to have been triggered by a radio report from the Iranian leader, Ayatollah Khomeini, saying Americans were behind the occupation of Islam’s holiest site, the Great Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, yesterday.

The US State Department has described the broadcast as “irresponsible, outright, knowing lies”.

The Saudi Arabian authorities have also issued statements saying the Mecca incident was the work of Muslim fundamentalists and no Westerners were involved.

American relations with Pakistan are already at a low point after the US cut off aid in April over Pakistan’s nuclear ambitions, and criticised the human rights record of Pakistani leader General Mohammed Zia ul-Haq.

Trapped

As the protesters began smashing windows and setting fire to the building, more than 100 embassy staff took refuge in a steel-lined and windowless vault on an upstairs floor.

Those trapped in the room included US diplomats, Pakistani staff members and a visiting journalist from Time magazine.

The Ambassador, Arthur W Hummel Junior, was outside the building when the attack began.

Staff inside were able to contact him, and it was Ambassador Hummel who raised the alarm and requested help from Pakistan’s government.

Meanwhile, protesters found their way onto the roof of the building, and staff members later said they began firing bullets down ventilation shafts.

Rescue

General Zia ordered the Pakistan Army to rescue the trapped Americans, and soldiers brought the situation under control at about 1800 local time (1300 GMT), about five and a half hours after the attack began.

Several other American institutions in Pakistan were also targeted in what appears to have been an orchestrated day of anti-American violence.

Tensions are running high since 66 American citizens were taken hostage by Iranian radical students, who seized the US embassy in Tehran just over two weeks ago.

President Carter yesterday threatened the use of force for the first time after the Ayatollah Khomeini accused the American hostages of being “spies” - effectively handing down a death sentence on them.

Who Leads the Salaah?

Filed under: General at 6:38 pm (no comments)

A lecture by Abul-’Abbaas Moosaa Richardson
An important research and study of the issue of leadership in prayers. A variety of situations are discussed towards understanding the correct principles with regards to the Imaamah and rights of those who lead the salaah.

Review:

The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: The Person who leads the people in prayer is the one who is most well-read (in the Qur’aan), if they are equal in their reading, then the most knowledgeable of them about the Sunnah, if they are equal with their knowledge of the Sunnah, then the one who made hijrah first, and if they are equal in the times they made hijrah, then the oldest of them in (accepting) Islam and let not a man lead another in his sultan (place of authority), and let him not sit in his special seat in his house except with his permission.” [Collected by Muslim, full reference on the recording]

Issues Discussed:

  • Is it waajib or recommended to make the imaamah according to the order in this hadeeth?
  • The relevance of age in this Issue
  • Does having the most Qur’aan refer to memorisation or fiqh (understanding)?
  • What is the meaning of ‘most well-versed in the Qur’aan’?
  • The Understanding of ‘do not lead a person in his place of authority’
  • Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen on the one with more Qur’an trying to overrule (or abandoning) the Imaam or those appointed in authority
  • What about the Imaam whose recitation is poor?
  • Imaam Ibn Baaz on the recitor who has difficulty pronouncing certain letters
  • What about the Imaam who shaves his beard (or has other effiminate qualities)?
  • Who leads the salaah when the owner (of a property) and the renter are both present?
  • Who leads the salaah with the Ruler/Governor visits?
  • Which is preferable, for the upright muslim to lead the salaah or a hafidh who is a faasiq (open-sinner) to lead?

This lecture will be available (Winter 2007) in full CD quality for purchase insha’Allaah.

Seeking Knowledge is the Foundation of Giving Da’wah!!

Filed under: General at 7:36 pm (no comments)

Audio Lecture by Shaykh Aboo ‘Amr al-Hajooree

An inspirational lecture delivered by Shaykh Abu ‘Amr ‘Abdul-Kareem al-Hajooree (Yemen) to a congregation at the Monroe Rd. Masjid in Trinidad (Sept. ‘06). The masjid was a unique setting, seeing that it is operated by Jamaa’atut-Tableegh and our guest speaker was neither Hanafee nor Tableghee yet nonetheless invited to give a small talk.

The Setting

Upon arrival, the lecture scheduled between Maghrib and ‘Isha was delayed and there was no table present for the lecturer/microphones and recording gear. It seemed at first that the hosts may have had second thoughts, after some time, they came forward and agreed for the lecture to begin on the condition that ‘no ill words be mentioned of Aboo Haneefah.’ It seems that they were apprehensive that Aboo Haneefah would be criticised by these Yemenee guests, which would never have been the case, may Allaah forgive and reward the late Imaam, Aboo Haneefah (rahimahullah). The speaker (Shaykh Aboo ‘Amr) agreed of course, and the lecture was set to begin, although no tables were brought out (after several requests) and the speaker and the translator (Aboo Muhammad al-Maghribee) and the audio equipment/recorder all had to crouch around the mimbar, in addition, the microphone was broken (crackling and low), the power supply on the audio equipment surged and broke and to top it all off, there were many glum faces in the audience, nonetheless our beloved guest speaker’s enthusiasm wasn’t dampened in the least and he proceeded to give an spirited advice to all those in attendance reflecting his love for Islamic Da’wah and desire for guidance for his brothers and sisters in Islaam.

The Lecture

Shaykh Aboo ‘Amr began by mentioning the purpose of creation, the importance of worshipping Allaah upon knowledge and understanding setting the stage for the lecture theme, ‘Seeking knowledge is the foundation of giving Da’wah’.

His focus then moved on to studying the Tawheed of Allaah, the efforts of the Prophets and the Sahabah to teach the people this, worshipping upon knowledge, giving preference to learning the Deen of Allaah not simply following traditions without knowledge and proofs from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). He highlighted the way of the Scholars of the Past, their example of going out to seek knowledge in light of the concept of giving da’wah/making calls and abandoning setting out to learn the religion of Allaah.

A spirited and emotional plea, from one brother to another, to give preference to seeking knowledge of this perfect deen of al-Islaam, to set out to understand learning about Tawheed extensively, studying all affairs of our religion with proofs and evidences, not blindly following any group, organisation or movement, being upon the ‘Aqeedah of those who came before us, the likes of Bukhaaree and Muslim who were partisan only to the Sharee’ah of Allaah and Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama’aah, learning then implementing, spending lifetimes in the pursuit of learning and practising Islaam correctly, seeking the reward from Allaah, the Most High.

The up-tempo talk and equally energetic translation coupled with the beautiful knowledge that was being disseminated to all those in attendance slowly removed all the long faces and replaced them with nodding heads and smiles, one of the most amazing examples of how knowledge affects the heart and how the beauty of adilah (proofs) from the book and the Sunnah can change the feelings of an audience when they are willing recipients. A truly unique and highly recommended lecture.
