Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee on the

Common-Folk Being Involved in the Affairs of Da’wah

Translation by Abul-Hasan Maalik Ibn Aadam

[Q]: What is your advice to some of the common folk who are in charge of some of mosques and who are entering into the affairs of the daýwah (call) and they do not possess the expertise to deal with [these issues]? For example, one of them says, “I do not permit so-and-so to teach in this mosque because he has a problem with such-and-such a student.”

[A]: These ones (i.e. the common folk) have no right in this matter. If it is such that they have built these mosques, then their reward is with Allaah. And it is upon them to continue with the likes of this good and righteousness, and that is with the building of mosques and spending [their wealth] on them and seeing to their upkeep, tidiness, purification and establishing those people who will be responsible for supervising it and what is like this. And there is a reward for them in that; as for entering into matters that do not concern them, and that which they have no knowledge of saying ’such and such’ as we have just heard, then this does not return to them; this is only for the people of knowledge, and the people should be referring these affairs back to the people of knowledge, as for them (the common folk), then they should not enter into these matters.

These ones (the common folk), their affair ends with the construction of the mosque, its management and upkeep. As for making himself a Scholar or Muftee, then this is not for him and it is not permissible for him to do this, and it is not permissible for him to prevent one who the people can benefit from, from teaching in the mosque as long as he (the teacher) is upon the correct manhaj (methodology) and sound ‘aqeedah (creed). It is not permissible for him to prevent the people from sitting with him under the pretext that he accompanies so-and-so from the people or that he is upon the methodology of so-and-so, and it is also impermissible for him to allow a person who is unsuitable on the pretext that he does not speak about so-and-so or doesnýt show enmity to so-and-so or that he doesn’t speak out against anyone. This is not permissible, nor is it for him [to speak in these matters]; rather these matters are only for those who establish affairs based upon knowledge. So if they proceed from knowledge, then they will have done what is right and benefited, and Allah will bring about benefit by them.

Appeal for Da’wah Materials for the the Carribbean 

During this blessed month of Ramadaan, we are appealing to the international community to support and important an noble cause. The Caribbean islands of Jamaica and St. Lucia are home to sometimes small and remote Muslim communities in need to da’wah materials. Jamaica is home to a fastly growing Muslim community mostly comprised of local converts, outside of Trinidad, it has the largest Muslim population in the Caribbean and Islam has been widely accepted.  St. Lucia is home to a couple hundred Muslims, da’wah efforts are active in the bustling port town of Castries and da’wah materials have proven useful, lately, four young St. Lucian women accepted Islam in the countryside of this beautiful small east carribean island, by Allaah’s permision.  

Allaah the Majestic mentions in the Qur’an,  

“And whatsoever you spend of anything (in the cause of Allah), He will replace it. He is the Best of those who grants sustenance.” [Qur’an, Saba‘ 34:39]
The Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,
“Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all.” [Related by Muslim (8/61)]

Amir Junaid Muhadith (born Chauncey Lamont Hawkins, June 20, 1975) better known by his stage name Loon, formerly an African-American rapper who was part of P. Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. Amir (Loon) accepted Islam in Dec. 2008 whilst on tour in Dubai, UAE. His inspiring story of rising up from the ghettos of Harlem, NY to street-hustling and later making it in to the rap game and eventually realising the truth of Islam and becoming Muslim, is quite a story. This treatise is taken from a lecture delivered by the great muhaddith of our times explaining the most basic fundamentals of the noble Salafee call.  The lecture itself propounds Salafiyyah in a way that can be understood by the layman.  A beginner’s tool such as this is currently not available in print in the English language.  In addition to being an introductory guide for the beginner, the book also serves as an intermediate manual in terms of the many explanatory notes and additional appendices included within it.

The book begins by giving an overview of the importance and role of at-tasfiyah wat-tarbiyah (purification and education), which sets the stage for the reader to comprehend of the validity of that which is to follow.  The author begins by explaining what is ‘Salafiyyah’ in conventional usage, its well known position towards the bigoted following of madhaahib and the difference between merely affiliating oneself to the Book and the Sunnah; as opposed to actually acting upon that.  The author goes onto discuss the obligation of taking the Salaf as an example, categories of the Sunnah and the reality of Salafiyyah.  Then this is compared to the present condition of the Muslims along with giving an explanation as to why so much differing and splitting has occurred.  Lastly, there occurs a detailed discussion about some of the most prevalent doubts upon Ahlus-Sunnah today, such as those from amongst the Mu’tazilah who deny the khabrul-aahaad (singular narration) and the Ashaa’irah and their likes who attribute tashbeeh (resembling Allaah to His creation) to Ahlus-Sunnah, whilst themselves performing ta‘weel (figurative interpretation) and ta’teel (denial) of the Attributes of Allaah.  The later part of the book is devoted to a biography of Imaam Muhammad Naasirud-Deen al-Albaanee, his discussion with the head of al-Azhar concerning the issues of taqleed and the madhaahib and an exposition of standard Ash’aree doubts upon Ahlus-Sunnah and their creed.  In a time of severe confusion and corruption, this treatise is sure to be a beacon of enlightenment and a pure spring from which all those desiring true guidance can drink.

Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-’Uthaymeen on April Fools Day - The noble Scholar advises the Muslims who partake in this day (i.e. April 1st) by lying and deceiving each other in jest. He outlines four prohibitions that every Muslim who partakes in the frivolous activities of this day falls into. And he concludes with an advice for the Muslims explaining why they are in such a humiliated position in front of the non-Muslims and he clarifies the way out of this current predicament.
